Abstract

The utilization of eggshell waste as a planting medium has significant potential to support agribusiness-based micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) product innovation, particularly in orchid cultivation. In Indonesia, the abundance of biodiversity is closely linked to local wisdom in environmental management, which can be integrated into sustainable business practices. However, the limited use of organic waste as an innovative cultivation medium remains a challenge for MSMEs. This study aims to analyze the integration of local wisdom in the innovation process of utilizing eggshell waste as an organic growing medium for orchids and to examine the added value generated for MSMEs. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature studies. The findings indicate that eggshells contain high calcium levels that support orchid root growth and plant development, while simultaneously reducing household organic waste. The innovation contributes to cost efficiency in planting media, enhances product value, and strengthens the environmentally friendly image of MSMEs. Furthermore, the integration of local wisdom encourages sustainable resource utilization and promotes environmentally responsible business practices. This innovation demonstrates strong potential as a sustainable business model that can be replicated by MSMEs, supporting environmental conservation and local economic development.
